Color Complements

This week's Project Quilting theme is color complements.  I was surprised to see another color challenge.  There is generally one that is based on an abstract concept or a feeling.  Those are the ones I have no idea what to do with, so I like another color challenge.  I made another card.

Colonial Era

This week's Project Quilting theme is "Era".  I knew I wanted to make some flag placemats for the big 4th of July celebration this year, so that is what I did.

I realized as I was doing this that it is nearly impossible to arrange 13 stars in a circle and have the points be orderly.  I'm sure Betsy Ross had the thought that 12 stars would of been easier.

The Year of the Horse

This week's Project Quilting theme is the Chinese New Year and it is the year of the Horse.  I made another  charity quilt.

I first thought to do a silhouette of a horse in fabric.  My problem with that is this is a quilt that could get washed every week and fused applique doesn't always hold up to washing.  My solution was to do outlines of horses in thread based on a petroglyph.

Plaid!!

This week's Project Quilting Challenge is "Plaid".  I don't have plaid.  I even went to the clothes closet to see if I could steal a shirt.  Nope.  No plaid.  I knew I could of sewn something that looked like plaid, but honestly, that was too much work.  I stopped at a thrift store and spent 99 cents on a men's shirt.

I had done a cat for a birthday card earlier in the month and so had the template already made.  I need a card for a lady with Parkinson's and so those two got combined.

Until next time...

Clean Slate, Sort Of

It is once again time for Project Quilting.  The current challenge is based on the 2026 Color of the Year, which is a white.  Obviously, the people that do this are still enamored with the White/Black/Gray color palette (sterile, boring, cold).  Shoot me, I like color.  Even the author of the challenge couldn't just say the challenge was white.  She gave it the name "Clean Slate".

I have been cleaning in my sewing room.  We won't discuss how much I needed to do that.  I knew I had a box of orphan blocks, but I found another large tray of orphan blocks.  I decided in 2026 I need to make charity quilts using orphan blocks.  Here is the first one.

I used up 6 orphan blocks and ended up with something I think a 2 year old would drag around.  I also found polyester batting and used some of that.

And to prove I have been cleaning:

ps.  I don't really have a clean slate as I haven't finished the birthday card for the girl that turned 11 on December 31rst.
