Plaid!!
This week's Project Quilting Challenge is "Plaid". I don't have plaid. I even went to the clothes closet to see if I could steal a shirt. Nope. No plaid. I knew I could of sewn something that looked like plaid, but honestly, that was too much work. I stopped at a thrift store and spent 99 cents on a men's shirt.
I had done a cat for a birthday card earlier in the month and so had the template already made. I need a card for a lady with Parkinson's and so those two got combined.

Clean Slate, Sort Of
It is once again time for Project Quilting. The current challenge is based on the 2026 Color of the Year, which is a white. Obviously, the people that do this are still enamored with the White/Black/Gray color palette (sterile, boring, cold). Shoot me, I like color. Even the author of the challenge couldn't just say the challenge was white. She gave it the name "Clean Slate".
I have been cleaning in my sewing room. We won't discuss how much I needed to do that. I knew I had a box of orphan blocks, but I found another large tray of orphan blocks. I decided in 2026 I need to make charity quilts using orphan blocks. Here is the first one.

Button It Up Challenge
This Project Quilting theme is "Button It Up". I actually thought of that phrase's younger brother, "Zip It Up". So I went with a zip bag from a coffee bag.

Arrows Challenge
This week’s Project Quilting theme is “arrows”. It didn’t take long to figure out what I was going
to do. Last weekend I took my sister and
sister-in-law to the Port of Miami. They
went out on an eighties cruise. My SIL
was really into it. She brought a
cheerleading skirt and pompoms as that was her identity in the 1980s. What I learned was my SIL who travels a lot
for work and likes nice makeup brushes, but doesn’t really have a good way to
take them in her suitcase. So, I made
her a makeup brush roll.
I had brought my flying geese trim ruler to Florida as I need more practice. My flying geese are not as wonky as they used to be when I did the sew and flip method, but they still are not perfect. Once again, I had to play the game of what is in mom’s leftover stash that I can use. I kept finding things that went together, but the pieces were not large enough.

Birthstone Challenge
This week's Project Quilting's theme is a color challenge. Use the color of your birthstone as a starting point. My birthstone is sapphire, so blue it is. My mother turns 92 on Thursday, so I did a card for mom.

Three Common Blocks Challange
This week's Project Quilting theme was 3 Common Blocks. I had no idea what I was supposed to do with that. So my grand plan was to wait until I got back to Milwaukee and look at orphan blocks. I never found the box of orphan blocks as I found 6 blocks really quickly that never made it to the orphan block box. Once I laid out my blocks, it read landscape to me and I just went that direction.
See you next time.
Nancy
