Sophie Kurszewski's Quilt

Tom Hughes started this.  Last spring, I made a quilt for his daughter who was graduating from high school.  This year the quilt is for his niece.

These memory quilts end up reflecting their owners.

Sophie is an athlete – she ran cross country, she played soccer and she swam.  So there were t-shirts from sports and of course soccer jerseys.  Add in the assortment of t-shirts from camps and schools and events and you get a memory quilt.

She was adopted from Guatemala when she was 3.  A part of her quilt is the dress she wore when she was adopted which has very, cool embroidery.  Her mom also came home from Guatemala with a hunk of hand woven fabric.  The fabric is now in the quilt and I made Sophie a pillow.

Once again I was invited to the party and had several people tell me they will need a quilt in the future.

I don't do anything special for the quilting.  I simply do long runs through my machine and make sure that no more than a 6 inch square is left between lines.

Thanks for stopping.
Nancy
