Button It Up Challenge

This Project Quilting theme is "Button It Up".  I actually thought of that phrase's younger brother, "Zip It Up".  So I went with a zip bag from a coffee bag.

The fun with this challenge was to be the various ways you can interpret the phrase "Button It Up".  I realized that I didn't want to take the button word literally.  I could only think of one place I would use the phrase as an idiom and that would be in the context of condensing a presentation.  So I went the route of the ZIP.

Thanks for stopping.

Arrows Challenge

This week’s Project Quilting theme is “arrows”.  It didn’t take long to figure out what I was going to do.  Last weekend I took my sister and sister-in-law to the Port of Miami.  They went out on an eighties cruise.  My SIL was really into it.  She brought a cheerleading skirt and pompoms as that was her identity in the 1980s.  What I learned was my SIL who travels a lot for work and likes nice makeup brushes, but doesn’t really have a good way to take them in her suitcase.  So, I made her a makeup brush roll.

I had brought my flying geese trim ruler to Florida as I need more practice.  My flying geese are not as wonky as they used to be when I did the sew and flip method, but they still are not perfect.  Once again, I had to play the game of what is in mom’s leftover stash that I can use.  I kept finding things that went together, but the pieces were not large enough.

I'm not the person with the makeup brushes, so I have no idea how long the ties need to be...

Birthstone Challenge

This week's Project Quilting's theme is a color challenge.  Use the color of your birthstone as a starting point.  My birthstone is sapphire, so blue it is.  My mother turns 92 on Thursday, so I did a card for mom.

I do need to stop and pick up a travel iron for the Florida condo.  Once again I was not liking the lack of control using the big iron my mother had.

Three Common Blocks Challange

This week's Project Quilting theme was 3 Common Blocks.  I had no idea what I was supposed to do with that.  So my grand plan was to wait until I got back to Milwaukee and look at orphan blocks.  I never found the box of orphan blocks as I found 6 blocks really quickly that never made it to the orphan block box.  Once I laid out my blocks, it read landscape to me and I just went that direction.

It's been a busy week and I go back to Florida on Wednesday.  First I have to get my challenge done for my Guild Challenge and take it by someone to enter it for me.

See you next time.

Ombre Challenge

My Guild Challenge for March is to make something with only one color.  You can use many hues of that color, but only that color.  So I had an idea for that and thought well, I can lay it out as an ombre.  The problem was that I had 2 days to work on it and it wasn't something I could get done in two days.  On the way to Florida, I realized, I could just do a card for the Project Quilting Challenge.  So, this morning I went to the grocery store, ate breakfast and at about 10:30 am, I dumped out the scrap bucket here to see if I could find fabrics for an ombre.  The scrap bucket here at the condo is only a half gallon bucket.  It worked, this is what I have:

When I get done with the piece for the Guild Challenge, I will need to post it to PQ Facebook Group so others can see.

Thanks,
Nancy

Project Quilting New Season

Once again I am participating in Project Quilting #projectquilting.  The theme for the first challenge is Mythical Character.  So the first thing I do is figure out what I can make that is small enough for Project Quilting and something that I can actually use.  This year I know I can always do small wallhangings for my sister who likes to decorate.

What small wallhanging can you do with Mythical Character?  Simple, Cupid and a Valentine's piece fits that bill.

I cut the cupid and the words with a Silhouette Cameo.  I ended up cutting the 'V' twice.  I have never found where I lost the first 'V' between downstairs and upstairs to my sewing room.

I did a faced binding as I did not want a standard binding.

I learned that the metallic printed fabric gets real hot when you need to turn the edge of a faced binding.  The only piece missing is the label as I ordered labels for 2025 and they haven't shown up yet.

Thanks for stopping by .
