Irish Chain Challenge

One last Project Quilting for 2024.  This challenge came out on March 17 with a theme of Irish Chain.  I of course could only think of the Irish Chain block.  I originally thought I would make a baby quilt, but a well-meaning friend told me I could only do a small piece as I wouldn’t have time to finish something bigger.  I thought I was making a wallhanging, but it may end up as a table runner.

Wearables Challenge

This week's Project Quilting challenge was Wearables as a nod to Project Runway the inspiration for Project Quilting.  If I were home I would have all kinds of options.  Here in Florida with the fabric my mother left me, not so much.  I do have 3 great nieces ages 1, 2, and 3 (two sets of parents).  So a doll quilt it is.

I drew up some dresses and this is what I came up with.

It looks a bit too much like a poster for Breast Cancer Awareness for my tastes, but the 2 year already called dibs on the quilt.

Hour Glass Challenge

This week's Project Quilting's theme was "Hour Glass".  I ended up taking it literally and used the hour glass block.  Why I wanted to tackle something that has 6 seams that come together in a point in a one week challenge, don't ask me.  It's done and it has lots of flaws.

Inside Out Challenge

This week's Project Quilting theme was Inside Out.  I struggled with this.  My literal brain couldn't get past having the inside of a quilt on the outside.  I eventually decided to use up some doilies that have been hanging out in my sewing room.  I left the batting exposed and that creates a who other problem on what to do with the binding.  I have never worked with doilies before.  I learned some things.  I also got done and feel the piece needs something else.  I will have to think on that.

I also learned that a low contrast piece is really difficult to photograph  on a cloudy February morning.  I went outside and this is the best I got.

Sky Color Challange

This weeks Project Quilting's theme was Sky Color with the twist that you couldn't use blue.  I started a bigger project that I have not finished.  I got to Sunday morning and decided to make something small just so I could participate.  Once again I learned that I do not have the technique for a skinny binding.
