It's Just a Dish Draining Pad

This week's Project Quilting topic was a block called 54-40 or Fight.  Depending on how you color it and if you use a companion block, it can look very different.

I need a dish drying pad for the condo, so I knew that is what I wanted to do.  I also knew that I was simply taking a bath towel and a pieced piece of material and putting them together.  I chose not to use a block as I figured it would never get straight in the process of putting the pad together.  So I chose to use the elements.

This turned into an exercise of telling myself  --  "It's Just a Dishing Draining Pad".  I wouldn't let myself take stuff apart or start over.  This started with the very beginning.  I do not have any fancy rulers here in Florida.  I also didn't look at any of the helpful links for how to put the block together. I simply made myself an equilateral triangle template.  And quickly found out you don't end up with a square block.  Most of my major problems seem to happen with cutting.  You will notice my two checkerboard strips are not the same size blocks.

It's done.  It will be used and one more hand towel is out of the linen closet.
